ERS Named One of the Top 10 Public Pension Funds by Private Equity Returns

The City of Baltimore Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) has been recognized as one of the nation’s Top 10 public pension funds by private equity returns, according to the 2024 Public Pension Study released by the American Investment Council (AIC).

ERS ranked #6 out of 200 U.S. public pension funds analyzed in the AIC’s annual study, which evaluates private equity performance across plans representing nearly 34 million public sector workers and retirees.

“The City of Baltimore Employees’ Retirement System is a municipal plan that has seen the benefits of investing with smaller and newer managers,” said David A. Randall, Executive Director of ERS. “The system recognizes the value of differences and diversity and has taken the time to evaluate newer strategies that generate attractive risk-adjusted returns. We have focused on small and mid-cap opportunities and have built strong partnerships with managers that have delivered for our pension plan’s Retirees and Beneficiaries.”

ERS is proud to be recognized for its investment strategy and long-term performance, which are rooted in strong partnerships, responsible stewardship, and a commitment to securing retirement outcomes for our members.
